In this guide
Nike’s return policy is generous on time (60 days) and light on conditions, but the details change depending on whether you’re a Nike Member, a guest, or returning something in a store. This guide covers the US policy as Nike publishes it in its Help Center.
Sources: Nike Help Center pages on the returns policy, return exceptions, how to return, returning an online order to a store, refund timing, Nike By You returns and shoe warranty (all read on October 3, 2026). The Nike pages we read don’t show a “last updated” date. Nike’s own wording on worn shoes, on refunds for store purchases and on guest in-store returns is thin, and we mark below what we couldn’t confirm.
Nike return policy: how many days do you have?
Nike’s returns policy page says you can return or exchange within 60 days of an online order delivery or a Nike store purchase. The clock for online orders starts at delivery, not when you place the order, so a slow shipment doesn’t eat into your time.
Both Nike Members and guests can return. The difference is cost: “Returns are free for Nike Members,” while guests who ship their return back have to pay the shipping themselves (details below).

Nike return policy for worn shoes
This is the question most people actually have, and Nike’s official pages are less explicit than you might expect. Here is exactly what the pages say and don’t say:
- The returns policy page says you can return within 60 days and doesn’t list a condition requirement such as “unworn” or “in original packaging” in the text we could read.
- The page on Nike By You (custom) sneakers says they “can be returned for any reason within 60 days.”
- On defects, Nike says: “We stand behind our shoes and gear. If it’s been less than 60 days since your purchase, simply return the item.”
- Under “Other Terms,” Nike reserves the right to limit returns, with or without a receipt, and keeps a database tracking consumer return activity.
So within 60 days Nike’s published policy doesn’t say worn shoes are refused. It also doesn’t say they’re guaranteed to be accepted, and Nike keeps the right to limit returns. What we can’t verify is how a particular store or the returns warehouse treats heavily worn shoes. If the shoes are clearly worn out, expect more friction.
After 60 days, Nike points you to its shoe warranty instead. That covers a material or workmanship flaw within two years of the manufacture date on the item’s tag. It excludes normal wear and tear, excessive wear or misuse, and excessive dirt. For purchases beyond 60 days, claims go through nikeclaims.com, where you provide purchase and manufacture dates, style code, receipt amount and shipping address; if approved, Nike’s page says you receive a gift card rather than a replacement item.
Nike return policy without a receipt
Nike’s page is short and direct: “Proof of purchase is required to return.” For online orders, your proof is the order itself. Nike says you can find your order information at nike.com/orders or in the Nike App order history. Guests use the order number and email address at nike.com/orders.
For store purchases, Nike’s policy says to take the items and your proof of purchase to any Nike store (except Nike Clearance stores). The pages we read don’t explain what Nike accepts if you lost a paper receipt from a store purchase, and the fine print reserves the right to require government ID information for returns and exchanges. Treat a receipt-free store return as uncertain and ask a store first. For general guidance across retailers, see how to return without a receipt.
How to return a Nike order
By mail (online orders)
- Sign in, find the item in your order history, open the order and select Start a Return or Exchange. Guests can look up the order at nike.com/orders with the order number and email.
- Members get a UPS return QR code for free shipping at a UPS store. After you submit the return, the code is available any time on the order details page (View Return, then UPS Dropoff, then Get a QR Code).
- Box your items and take them to UPS within 21 days of starting the return or exchange.
- Members can alternatively print a prepaid label and drop it at UPS, or schedule a UPS pickup for a fee.
- Guests print a label and ship with the carrier of their choice, covering the shipping cost.
- Nike inspects the return, then issues your refund or ships your exchange.

In a Nike store (online orders)
Nike Members and guests can return or exchange online orders at most Nike stores, except Nike Clearance stores. Nike’s store-return page says to bring your items, your original form of payment and either your order barcode or order number. The window is the same 60 days.
In a Nike store (store purchases)
Take the items and your proof of purchase to any Nike store except Clearance stores. Items bought at Nike Clearance stores can’t be returned or exchanged, and things bought elsewhere can’t be returned to a Clearance store.
Members vs. guests: what actually differs
| Nike Member | Guest | |
|---|---|---|
| Return window | 60 days | 60 days |
| Mail return shipping | Free with UPS QR code or prepaid label | You print a label and pay the carrier of your choice |
| UPS pickup | Available for a fee | Not described in the pages we read |
| Return in a store | Yes (most stores) | Yes (most stores) |
| Price adjustments | Offered for eligible items | Nike’s page names Members only |
| Track return | nike.com/orders, signed in | nike.com/orders with order number and email |
If you’re a guest and the item is cheap, the shipping you pay can wipe out much of the refund. Returning to a store is the way around that. Nike also says its shipping fees “are not refundable unless you receive an incorrect item.”
What you can’t return to Nike
| Item | Rule on Nike’s Return Policy Exceptions page |
|---|---|
| Custom Jersey By You soccer jerseys | Cannot be returned or exchanged |
| SNKRS Reserve orders | Cannot be returned |
| Kobe Draft Pack Collection mystery drop items | Cannot be returned |
| Nike x LEGO brick sets | Must be sealed and unopened to return |
| Apple Watch accessories | Must be returned within 14 days |
| Gift cards | Cannot be returned |
| Items noted as nonreturnable | Cannot be returned |
| Items bought at Nike Clearance stores | Cannot be returned, exchanged or price adjusted |
Custom Nike By You sneakers are returnable: Nike says they’re included in the return policy for any reason within 60 days. Only the Jersey By You soccer jerseys are carved out. Some Nike products also carry their own written guarantees, which Nike says to check on labels, hang tags or warranty cards.
How long does a Nike refund take?
Nike’s refund page says: “Once we receive your return, we’ll process it and issue a refund within six business days.” You get an email when the refund is initiated, but the money can take longer to show up:
| Refunded to | Nike’s stated timing |
|---|---|
| Credit or debit card, Apple Pay, PayPal | Up to 10 additional days after the refund is initiated |
| Nike gift cards and product vouchers | Usually within 24 hours |
| Klarna | Klarna handles the refund; contact Klarna for status |
So the worst case on a card is roughly six business days for Nike to issue the refund plus up to 10 days for your bank, on top of the time the package spends in transit. Nike says you can check progress at nike.com/orders. For how long refunds take across retailers and what to do when one is late, see how long does a refund take.
We couldn’t verify a separate refund timeline for returns made in a store; the pages we read describe the timing for processed returns generally. Ask the associate which payment method will be credited and when.
Defective items and price adjustments
If a product is defective or flawed and you’re inside 60 days, Nike’s answer is to return it like any other item. Past 60 days, the shoe warranty applies (two years from the manufacture date on the tag for a material or workmanship flaw). Nike x LEGO sets and Hyperice products have special handling noted on the policy page.
Nike also says it offers price adjustments to Nike Members for eligible items. We couldn’t find the exact conditions in the pages we read, so check the Help Center or ask Nike before counting on one. General rules across stores are in the price adjustment policy guide.
Common mistakes
- Missing the 21-day drop-off. The 60-day window is for starting the return; once you start a mail return, you have 21 days to hand the package to UPS.
- Taking a clearance purchase to a regular store, or the reverse. Neither direction works.
- Forgetting the order barcode or original payment method for an in-store return of an online order.
- Assuming shipping is refundable. It isn’t unless Nike sent the wrong item.
- Waiting too long on a pair that doesn’t fit. Return early, before heavy wear gives Nike a reason to push back.
Buying Nike through another retailer? Those orders follow the retailer’s rules instead. For example, our Amazon return policy guide explains Amazon’s windows, which differ from Nike’s.
