Lowe’s policy is simple for everyday items and tight for big-ticket ones. If you’re buying a major appliance, a utility vehicle, a portable air conditioner or a tile saw, read the 48-hour section before it’s delivered.
Based on Lowe’s official returns policy page. The page shows no “last updated” date.
How long do you have to return to Lowe’s?
Most new, unused merchandise can be refunded or exchanged within 90 days of the original purchase date with a receipt. CRAFTSMAN battery and electric outdoor power equipment also gets 90 days.

48-hour items: report the return fast
For these items, the return must be started with Lowe’s within 48 hours of delivery or of picking it up at a store:
- Major appliances: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, ranges, range hoods, dishwashers, over-the-range microwaves, cooktops, wall ovens and washer/dryer pedestals.
- Utility vehicles, golf carts, go-karts and motorized bikes (returned to a store in the original state, with paperwork and title).
- Portable and window air conditioners and evaporative coolers, construction heat, paint sprayers and tile saws.
30-day and 365-day items
30 days: TVs and electronics, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, trimmers, edgers, tillers, cultivators, chippers, shredders, snow blowers, log splitters, augers, subcompact tractors and attachments, annuals, Bonnie Plants, house and patio plants, HVAC systems, water heaters, liquid paint and made-to-measure blinds and window treatments.
365 days: trees, shrubs and perennials, and purchases made with Lowe’s credit programs such as the MyLowe’s Rewards Credit Card, MyLowe’s Pro Rewards Credit, Lowe’s Commercial Account and Lowe’s Business Rewards.
Special orders: configured special-order products returned or cancelled more than 72 hours after purchase carry a 20% restocking fee.
What Lowe’s won’t refund

- Gift cards, merchandise cards, in-store credits and refund cards.
- Whole-house generators, highway trailers, as-is merchandise and paint samples.
- Safety masks and facial coverings, trading cards and items with a biohazard risk.
Returning without a receipt
Lowe’s does not accept returns or exchanges without a valid proof of purchase. The good news is that proof doesn’t have to be paper. Lowe’s accepts:
- A physical or electronic receipt, or the order number.
- The payment card or digital wallet you paid with.
- Your phone number, or your MyLowe’s Rewards or MyLowe’s Pro Rewards account.
Lowe’s also uses refund verification systems that may ask for a picture ID (driver’s license, state ID or military ID).
How to return an online order
- By mail: if your order came with a FedEx label, you can mail it back.
- In store: if there’s no FedEx label, return online and in-store purchases at any Lowe’s.
- Large items: call Lowe’s customer care at 1-800-445-6937 to ask about home pickup.

When will you get your refund?
- Credit and debit cards: back to the original payment method. Allow up to 7 business days for the money to show, depending on your bank.
- Checks: in-store credit if you return within 3 days of purchase; after that, cash or in-store credit.
- Cash refunds over $1,000 may be mailed as a check.
- Gift cards and store credit come back as in-store credit; MyLowe’s Money goes back to your digital wallet.
Tips before a big purchase
