Ross’s website has no online shop, so every Ross return happens in a store. The biggest thing to know: the window is 30 days, not the 60 days that circulates online. Here’s everything Ross’s own policy says.

Based on the official Ross Return Policy published on rossstores.com (checked Sep 29, 2026). Returns are subject to Ross’s refund verification system.

Is the Ross return policy 30 or 60 days?

30 days. Ross’s policy says that merchandise “accompanied by the original receipt within 30 days of purchase” gets “a full refund … in the form of payment in which it was purchased.” We found no 60-day window anywhere in Ross’s official policy. After day 30, you can still bring the item back with the receipt, but the outcome changes:

Your situationWhat Ross gives you
Receipt, within 30 days, item not used, worn or alteredFull refund to the original form of payment
Receipt older than 30 daysExchange or store credit
No receiptStore credit or exchange at the item’s current selling price, with a valid picture ID
Used, worn or altered itemNo refund, store credit or exchange

How Ross refunds you

  • Cash purchases are refunded in the form you paid.
  • Credit or debit card purchases are refunded to the same card, and that card must be present to complete the refund. Bring it with you.
  • Check purchases: there’s a 5-day waiting period before you can get a cash refund. For check questions, Ross lists 1-800-767-7457.
Exchanges can cost you the receipt. Ross treats previous exchanges made without a receipt as non-receipted transactions. If you swap something without a receipt and later want to return the new item, expect the no-receipt rules.

Ross return policy without a receipt

  1. Bring a valid picture ID. Ross accepts a driver’s license, state photo ID, passport or military ID, and enters it into its system for refunds.
  2. Expect store credit or an exchange, valued at the item’s current selling price, which may be lower than what you paid if it has been marked down.
  3. Over $50? Wait for the mail. If the no-receipt refund is over $50, Ross mails the store credit voucher within 21 days to the address on your ID, so make sure that address is current.

Ross uses a refund verification system: every return is checked, the number of no-receipt refunds is limited, and the system can decline a refund. Some categories of merchandise can’t be returned at all without a receipt; Ross lists them on the front of your receipt, or you can ask the cashier.

Returning a gift to Ross

Ross’s policy doesn’t describe gift receipts. If you received something from Ross without a receipt, the no-receipt rules apply: bring a valid picture ID and expect store credit or an exchange at the item’s current selling price, subject to the refund verification system. If the giver still has the original receipt, returning within 30 days with that receipt gets the full refund, but it goes back to the payment the giver used, and a card refund needs that card present.

Ross also operates dd’s DISCOUNTS stores, but its return policy doesn’t say whether a Ross purchase can go back to a dd’s store. Ask before you make the trip.

How to return something to Ross

  1. Check the date. Count 30 days from the date on your receipt.
  2. Bring the item unused, unworn and unaltered. Swimwear and lingerie must have the original ticket attached.
  3. Bring the receipt and the card you paid with. Without the card, a card refund can’t be completed.
  4. Bring a picture ID, even with a receipt: Ross says ID “may be required” for refunds.
  5. Take it to a Ross store register. If there’s a problem, Ross’s contact form has a “Merchandise Return or Exchange” topic.

Ross vs. other off-price stores

Ross runs 1,952 Ross Dress for Less locations, plus 376 dd’s DISCOUNTS stores, according to its August 2026 earnings release. Its 30-day window matches TJ Maxx and Marshalls for in-store purchases, and all three give store credit rather than a refund for no-receipt returns, and credit or an exchange at most for late ones. Unlike those two, Ross has no online orders to send back. If a long window matters, Walmart and Target give 90 days on most items.
